Adam not the first man

Was Adam the first man (and Eve the first woman)? If so then were all people descended from Adam and Eve? And if this is true then where did the different races come from, or how did they come about? The different races presents a real problem for the belief that all descended from Adam and Eve because Adam and Eve were ruddy complected and were essentially "white", so how did the Asian and Negro races come about if their ancestors were "white" (or caucasion)?

The word Adam defined in the Strong's concordance:
Strongs # H120 - From 119; ruddy, i.e. A human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.)
Strongs # H119 - to show blood in the face, i.e. Flush or turn rosy;- be (dyed, made) red (ruddy).

Furthermore, let's say for example that Adam and Eve were even of different races themselves, one was black and one was white, that still would not account for the three main races, not to mention that there is no scripture to back up that they were each of a different race. Finally, the races cannot be explained by the environment in which the people lived because the color of ones skin is not the only thing that makes the races unique. They have different physical features that are easy to see and these different physical features would not come about because of where one lives. So, again the question is, where did the other races come from?

The answer is the 6th day creation.

Genesis 1:26-31
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

On the 6th day God created man and told them to replenish the earth, so in order to replenish the earth there had to be both male and female. And when God looked He saw that it was good. So God was happy with man that He created, which means He was happy with all the races. Gen 1:26 God made man in His own likeness - physical, not moral. 1:27 God created male and female and told them to replenish the earth. (See: 'The Three Earth Ages' - replenish indicates it was full before.)

In Genesis chapter 2 God rested on the 7th day. Then in chapter 2 verse 4 it talks about how God had made the earth and heaven and the plants.

Genesis 2:4-8
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

Up to this point God had not caused it to rain but used a mist to water the plants. In verse 5 it says, And there was not a man to till the ground. What does this mean? This verse is typically taken as when God first created man as in Genesis 1:27. But in chapter 2 verse 7 it says God 'formed' man of the dust, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. There are several differences between this verse where God formed man and in 1:27 where God created man. In 2:7 the word man is eth-Haadam with the article and particle = this same man Adam. (Appendix 14 Companion Bible) Adam without the article denotes man or mankind in general (Gen 1:26, 2:5, 5:1). With the article it denotes The man Adam even though it is rendered man, (Gen 1:27, 2:7, 2:15, 2:16, 2:19...). Now, with the particle 'eth' in addition to the article it is very emphatic and means self, very, this same, this very. (Gen 2:7, 8, 15).

God created Adam and Eve to be the ones in which Christ would eventually come. They were specially created for this purpose.  They were formed by God innocent and perfect in form. (See the genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3:23-38.) One could even say this is why Adam named his wife Eve in Genesis 3:20, because all people that accept Jesus Christ will be of the living and those that do not will not be of the living but of the dead.

In Genesis 1:26 it says:
And God said "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

Here man is the word adam but, without the article, and is rendered mankind. In Gen 2:7 it says: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The word man in this verse is with the article and particle - Hebrew 'eth-Haadam' which is rendered "this same man Adam".

So we can see that in the creation of mankind in Gen 1:26 God gave man dominion over all animals and they were fishers and hunters but no planters of seed and tilling of the ground. But in 2:7, which is after God rested on the 7th day so it must have been the 8th day, God made Adam to be a tiller of the ground and put him in the garden of Eden. The other mankind created in 1:26 was not in the Garden of Eden and had dominion over all the earth and did not till the ground.

Now, let's move forward a little in time after Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel. When Cain and Abel were of age and brought a sacrifice to the Lord (Gen 4:3-14) God accepted Abel's but rejected Cain's because Cain's sacrifice was not of his first fruit (not of the best he had) and Cain was filled with rage and jealousy and killed Abel. In doing this God banned Cain from the Garden of Eden and told him he will no longer posses the ability to grow food, which was his way of life (Gen 4:2). Then Cain said that his punishment is too great and everyone that finds him will want to kill him.

Genesis 4:3-14
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 And He said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

Here we see that Cain was sentenced to be a vagabond, roaming in the earth (outside the Garden of Eden) and he was concerned that anyone who finds him will want to kill him. So the question is, why would Cain be concerned about being killed by others in the earth? If he was the first born of Eve and thus the oldest person on earth besides Adam and Eve, who was he worried about killing him? Keep in mind that Adam and Eve had not had any other children yet at this point as we will see in a moment. The fact is there were others in the earth already and he apparently knew of them. They had to have been from the 6th day creation of mankind, which means man had been on the earth since the 6th day and were given command to replenish the earth. We also know that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years as it says in 2 Peter 3:8.

2 Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

So this means that after man was created on the 6th day that as much as two thousand years had passed before Cain was born, which means there was plenty of time for the population to grow and spread around. Also, in Gen 4:16 it says Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. Then in verse 17 Cain had a wife and bare children.

Genesis 4:16-17
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

So where did he find a woman of age to bare children if Adam and Eve had only Cain and Abel to this point and no other children yet? The answer is again, the 6th day creation.

We know Eve had no other children since Cain and Abel because in Gen 4:25 they had a son named Seth and Eve said this son was given her to replace Abel who Cain slew.

Genesis 4:25
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

The word Seth defined in the Strong's Concordance:
Strong's #H8352 - from 7896; put, i.e. Substituted: Sheth, third son of Adam:-Seth, Sheth.

Seth was the very next child of Adam after Cain and Abel and this was after Cain had already been banned from the Garden of Eden. So, if all humanity had started with Adam and Eve and Cain was the oldest child then why would Cain be concerned about someone killing him when he left the Garden of Eden and how did he find a wife in the land of Nod? We now know the answer, it is the 6th day creation of mankind. We can also surmise that the 6th day creation was when God created all the other races.

So the idea that Adam and Eve were the first and only two people in the world at one point and in fact responsible for all humanity is just another one of the many places in the Bible where man does not pay close enough attention to what is written and ends up accepting a story that does not make sense according to Gods natural laws and is not Biblically accurate.
