The Overthrow

What is the overthrow? When did it happen? Why did it happen? Where is it in the Bible? All of these questions will be answered in this document, researched in the Scriptures.

Most, if not all, people know that God/Jesus has an arch enemy named Satan! But not everyone knows that Satan was not always an enemy of God. He was a beloved son/child of God that God put in a very high position. Satan had a different name in the first earth age, he was called Lucifer and you’ll find that in Isaiah 14:12. In the Strong's concordance number 1966 Lucifer means shining or morning star. He was also called the covering cherub in Ezekiel 28:14. Lucifer had a very special place and job in the first earth age, he was kind of like Gods right hand man!, until iniquity was found in him, Ezekiel 28:15. Satan‘s sin is the first documented sin in the scriptures and it was pride. Lucifer became so proud of the position God gave him and the beautiful way God created him and the craftiness of his trade and his wealth, that he thought that he should become God and that he could become God. This is the ultimate state of pride.

What is the overthrow?
This is when Satan stood up against God in the first earth age and convinced 1/3 of God‘s angels/messengers/children/people that he was going to take over as God and sit on the throne of God. Ezekiel 28:12–19 says; 12. Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus and say unto him, thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13. Thou hast been in Eden the Garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tablets and of thy pipes was prepared in the day that thy wast created. 14. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: Thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 19. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: Thou shall be a terror, and never shall thou be anymore.

Also we will find documentation in Isaiah 14:12-20, it says: 12. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13. For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north: 14. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most high. 15. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17. that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? 18. All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own house. 19. But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under your feet. 20. Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou has destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers she’ll never be renowned.

Satan was created! (not eternal like God) He was created as a beautiful angel/messenger/child/man/person, an archangel with special duties like protecting the throne of God. But sin was found in him and he became prideful and wanted to be God (sit on the throne instead of protecting it.)  Satan convinced 1/3 of Gods stars to follow him, Revelation 12:4. Satan rebelled against God once sin was found in him and 1/3 of Gods children believed Satan would and could be their God (see the 'The Three Earth Ages').

When did the overthrow happen?
We are not told when this happened but we know that it was before Genesis 1:2 when God created this earth age that we are in now. At some point God had enough of Lucifer's lying to Gods children and stealing their love by his falsehoods. God got angry and destroyed everything. Instead of destroying 1/3 of His children, God made the place a waste. Jeremiah 4:23–28: 23.I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. 24. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. 25. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger. 27. For thus hath the Lord said, the whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. 28. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

This says that the Lord looked and what he saw was a waste, formless and void, there was no man. This is not Noah’s flood because there were six people saved and animals and it was not a total waste after the flood. The dove found an olive branch, Genesis 8:11. The fruitful place became fruitless and waste so it had to be fruitful before this happened. It’s cities broken at the face of God and his anger! There had to be cities. What was the anger about? Satan’s rebellion, Ezekiel 28:12-19, Isaiah 14:12-20, Revelation 12:4.

God says the whole land will be completely destroyed but it won’t be the end! What could possibly make God so angry? Satan trying to take over His throne and take His children’s love away from him. So He destroyed the place instead of the people. In Genesis 1:1 it says that God created the heaven and the earth but in Genesis 1:2 the Bible says that the earth became formless and void. You must study this out but you will see in our other studies that the earth was not created formless and void but became that way as we rightly divide and understand Gods word, 2 Timothy 2:15.

So in the beginning, and we don’t know when that was, God created the heaven and the earth. And in Genesis 1:2 it says that the earth became formless and void just like God described it in Jeremiah 4:23-28. Just after destroying the first earth age God looked and it was a waste. Genesis 1:2 says that the earth that God created became a waste but does not say when this took place. Somewhere between the first earth age and Genesis 1:3. In Ephesians 1:4 Paul talks about the overthrow, but the word used is confusing to most. The word "foundation" is the word used but if you study out the word used in Greek it should be the word “katabole”. Strong's concordance number for this Greek word is 2602, you will see that the word comes from 2598 which is the word "katabollo" which means "to throw down, cast down, descend, fall – fall down." So if we translate the word properly it reads God chose us in Him before the overthrow, not the foundation of the world. (see The Companion Bible appendix #146 titled The Foundation Of The World. This will explain in depth how the word "foundation" is used when it clearly should be overthrow.) Revelation 12:10 is translated properly and reads: and I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

In this verse you will see that God is talking about the katabole (the overthrow), you see it is in the Bible what happened to cause the overthrow and it is recorded that God made a complete waste, then in Genesis 1:3 God re-created the earth we enjoy now. Satan is planning his next take over which will be when he comes as Christ the Savior of the world, (i.e. the rapture) see 'Rapture Theory', and 'Rapture Theory - more'. Just to be sure you understand, the earth became formless and void like Jeremiah 4:23-28 says, backed up by Isaiah 45:18, which says God created the earth not formless and void but to be inhabited! This also clears up Genesis 1:1, and Genesis 1:2, the earth became, not was, formless and void. See our study on 'Age Of The Earth'.

Why did the overthrow happen?
Because Satan wanted to take over as God and run things and is still attempting to do that in this earth age today. See 'Satan comes in Peace'.

Just to recap: the earth was created by God to be inhabited a long, long time ago and it came to a screeching halt when Satan decided to take over, he and his followers, 1/3 of God’s children. But God destroyed the place we were in or the age we were in and made a total waste of the place and then re-created this earth where Satan is still trying to take over as God and steal his children away. This is why we must know and believe God‘s Word and be able to rightly divide His Word, 2 Timothy 2:15. Satan will make another stand when he tries to be God again with the rapture lie when the whole world will believe he is God except for the elect. Yashua will then return and cast Satan into the bottomless pit, Revelation 20:1-3, then Christ will return to reign on this earth for 1000 years, but Satan will be let out for one more try, Revelation 20:3, 20:7. Satan’s ultimate destruction is documented in Revelation 20:10 and it says: and the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever. The overthrow happened in the first earth age and there will be another overthrow at the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ when Satan is let out of the pit one last time. God and his children will overthrow him and that will be the end of the devil, Satan, Lucifer, the serpent.

Satan made the choice to disobey God and even wanted to be as if he was God, the most high. Isaiah 14:14,15 .14 “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most high. 15 yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” Those that followed Satan in the first earth age made that choice in that age as well. Instead of God destroying 1/3 of his children that followed Satan he chose to destroy the age that we were living in. God gave everybody a chance to get it right in this earth age. Everyone is being tested to see who they will follow/love and be faithful to. Our father sent his son(Yashua) to get back what was his in the first place, his children! John14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, “I am the Way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”" But, and this is a big but, all his children have free will and must choose for themselves who they will obey and follow. If anyone wants to be saved they can make that choice to follow Christ and his teachings and be saved in this earth age right now! (John 3:16) “for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not Perish, but have everlasting life.”

Making the right choice!

The sooner you choose to follow our savior Yashua/Jesus, the better off you will be. Our adversary, Satan, is trying very hard to deceive everyone into thinking he is God and if you don’t study God‘s word often/daily (Josh 1:8) you will be deceived. (2 Timothy 2:15) Satan knows his time is short and running out. Thank God our father is so long suffering and patient with his children that he has made a way for those who never really stood a chance in the first place. With all the false teaching and Satan‘s lies pouring out like a flood, most never stood a chance in the first place in this earth age. God has given them a chance in the millennium when Christ reigns for 1000 years. (Rev 20:2-3) (Isa 2:3) (Dan 7:14) (Zech 14:9) After that Satan is let loose for a short time. (Rev 20:3) But is unsuccessful and destroyed forever at that time. (Rev 20:7-10)

Then those who did not choose to follow our great God and Savior are going to be blotted out forever and those who follow Jesus go to eternity with him forever, this is called the great white throne judgment. (Rev 20:11-15) 11 and I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was open, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 and the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14 and death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 and if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Remember God’s word said the lake of fire is the second death!

Now is the time to choose Jesus as your Savior so you can saved in the first resurrection and avoid having to go through the thousand year period (the millennium), which after that you will still have to withstand being deceived by Satan when he is let loose for a short time to test those who did not make the first resurrection.
