Why did Jesus go to hell?
Jesus went to hell (those held in prison) to teach all them that lived before He was crucified and raised from the dead so that they would have a chance to be saved just like all of us who were born after His resurrection.
1 Peter 3:18-19
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
All those that died before Jesus was raised from the dead never had the chance to be saved like we do now, so Jesus went to where they were being held to preach the gospel. Many were converted and crossed over to the right side of the gulf and obtained eternal life.
